Accounts & Signing In

One edu.games account has one role, and that role decides which portal you land in after signing in. This page covers the roles, how to register and sign in, and how invitation links and class codes fit in.

Roles and portals

Registering

Go to edu.games/auth/register and pick your role from the buttons at the top of the form — Student, Teacher, Tutor, Parent, Game Developer or Institution. Then enter a display name, your email and a password (at least 8 characters), accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and choose Create account. The form is protected by a CAPTCHA, and you receive a confirmation email — click the link in it to activate the account.

Some roles ask for one more thing: students enter their class code, teachers their school name, developers a studio name, and institutions the school or district name. If you sign up with Google or Microsoft instead, you are shown the same role picker afterwards (“Almost there!”) before reaching your portal.

Signing in

Sign in at edu.games/auth/signin (every portal’s sign-in button takes you there). Four methods are available:

  • Magic link — enter your email and choose Send magic link; click the link in the email to sign in with no password. This is the default tab.
  • Password — switch to the Password tab and enter your email and password.
  • Continue with Google and Continue with Microsoft — use your school or personal Google or Microsoft account.

After signing in you are redirected to the dashboard of your role’s portal. Because the sign-in cookie is shared across every edu.games subdomain, you stay signed in when you move between the marketplace, the play page and your portal.

Teacher eligibility

Teacher accounts are checked so that only educators see student data. If you register with a recognised academic email address (such as a .edu, .ac.uk or .edu.au domain), your account is approved automatically. If your school uses another kind of address, the form tells you “That doesn’t look like a school email” and asks you to briefly explain why — submitting that sends a teacher application that is reviewed by hand. You are emailed once it is approved and your account is created. Tutor, parent, student and institution accounts have no eligibility check.

Invitation links

Several relationships on edu.games are set up by emailed, single-use invitation links. Each is tied to the email address it was sent to, so you must sign in (or register) with that exact address to accept it:

  • Institution → teacher. A school administrator invites a teacher; the link expires after 7 days and can only be accepted by a teacher account with the invited email. See For Institutions.
  • Tutor → parent (or adult student). A tutor adds a student; the parent gets the link (or the student, if they are an adult learner), also valid for 7 days. Accepting creates the parent account and the child’s student account if they don’t exist yet. See For Parents.
  • Developer invites. Invited developers open a registration form with the role and email already filled in — they only set a password.

Class codes for students

Students don’t receive invitation emails. Instead, a teacher shares a 6-character class code, which the student enters when registering or later under Profile & Class. One student account can belong to several classes. See Joining a Class.

Picked the wrong role?

A role is fixed when the account is created and there is no self-service way to change it. Invitation pages will tell you when you are signed in with the wrong kind of account (for example, “Teacher account required”). If you registered with the wrong role, email support@edu.games from the account’s address, or register again with a different email.

Signing out

Every portal has a Sign out button at the bottom of its sidebar. Signing out from one portal signs you out everywhere. On a shared classroom computer, always sign out when you finish.
