Managing Classes

A class groups students so you can assign games to them together and look at their progress as a cohort. Each class has its own code; students join by entering it, and there is nothing else to set up.

Creating a class

Open My Classes in the sidebar. Under Create New Class, type a name (for example Year 5 Maths) and press Create. edu.games generates a unique 6-character class code — capital letters and digits, such as AB1C2D. Each class in the list shows its name, code, student count and creation date.

Sharing the code

The code is shown large on the class page with a Copy button. Write it on the board, paste it into your LMS, or read it out. Students enter it when they register (there is a class-code box on the sign-up form) or later under Profile & Class in their portal — see Joining a Class. Codes are not secret in the way a password is, but anyone who has it can join, so share it only with your students.

The class page

Click a class to open it. The page has three areas:

  • Assigned Games — the games this class sees, each with a ▶ Play link to try it yourself and a Remove button. Above the list is the Select a game to assign… dropdown. See Assigning Games.
  • Students — the roster, with each student’s display name and when they signed up. Click a column heading to sort. Until someone joins it reads “No students have joined this class yet.”
  • Executable Game Seats — appears only when a desktop (downloadable) game is assigned. For each such game it shows how many seats are active right now (for example 3 / 30 active), and lets you expand the list of active sessions.

Active desktop sessions

When a student starts a desktop game through the launcher, a session is checked out against your licence and listed under Show … active sessions with the student’s name and start time. Sessions end when the student closes the game; if a computer crashed and a session is stuck, press Release to free the seat immediately instead of waiting for it to time out. Browser games don’t appear here — they don’t hold a seat while playing.

Students in several classes

A student can belong to as many classes as they like, including classes run by different teachers. They see the games from all their classes on one dashboard, and each teacher sees only the games and progress connected to their own classes. If you run several classes with the same students, you don’t need to buy more seats — a seat licence covers a student across all your classes.

Removing a student

Students leave a class themselves with the Leave button under Profile & Class in their portal. There is no remove button on the teacher side at the moment, so ask the student to leave, or create a fresh class with a new code at the start of a new year and share that instead.

Tip: one class per group you teach, not per subject-and-game. Insights are scoped by class, so a class that mirrors a real group of students gives you the most useful charts.
